Safe Haven

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law volunteer at an animal shelter in the area where they live. This particular animal shelter, Safe Haven, needs some assistance in funding a new building to provide quality care to the animals waiting to be adopted. Please visit my sister-in-law's blog where she writes more about this cause and its need. Anything you can do to help is highly appreciated. Here is a direct link to that particular post.

10 Months

Today, Thing 2 turned 10 months old. These last 10 months have gone by quickly. He has 2 more teeth since last month - 4 in all - and 2 more starting to break through. He can say a couple words, mostly nonono and dada. He has called me 'ma' a few times but it doesn't happen often. The day before Valentine's Day, he learned how to give kisses. He will now give kisses when asked. Of course they are of the opened mouth variety. He is pulling himself up to stand with ease now and is in the beginning stages of walking. I am sure he will be walking around the house soon.

Unfortunately, I do not have a picture to add to this post as our camera is on the fritz. Once it is either fixed or we get a new one, I will be sure to post updated pictures.

The Break-In

So, yesterday I couldn't find my house key. Luckily, The Mr. was "working from home" so I told him not to lock me out as I didn't know where my key was. I knew it was either in my purse or in the house as I was able to get into the house the day before. On my way out yesterday afternoon to pick the boys up from daycare I reminded The Mr. not to lock me out. We also talked about how he would work until I got back and then we would go to Target.

When I arrived back at the house, I called The Mr. on my cellphone to have him come out to the Jeep. When he got to the Jeep he said he only had his wallet with him. I said "You didn't bring your keys?" He said "No, I thought you had your key?" I said, "No, I told you I can't find my key and not to lock me out!" So he proceeded to empty my purse trying to find my house key. It was no where to be found. He then went up to the house to open one of the windows from the outside to attempt to climb in and then open the door. He got the window open without any problem (it's good to know we can break into our own house) but couldn't figure out how to climb through the window without falling on his face. I then suggested that we get Thing 1 out of the Jeep and put him through the window. The Mr. seemed to think that may work and Thing 1 thought it would be fun. So, we got Thing 1 out of the Jeep and The Mr. put him through the window while I was at the back door telling him what to do to unlock the door. Thing 1 did a great job unlocking the door and he thought it was the best thing ever.

A few hours later, when we were home and the kids were in bed, I found my house keys. They were in my purse.

Weekend In Review

I want start off by saying, I am still alive. I've just been extremely busy. I started my new job last week so I basically came home every night and passed out on the couch. I'm starting to get into a groove now so I think things will calm down and I can actually do some of the things that I enjoy while I'm at home instead of being a zombie.

So, I thought I would do a review of our weekend.

1. Friday we did our weekly Target trip and purchase Turbo Tax. I have co-workers who say it's really great so I thought we could try to do our own taxes for once.

2. On Saturday, Thing 1 finally did #2 on the potty after not going #2 for a week. Because of this, the toilet clogged. We plunged it and it seemed to be ok.

3. Saturday evening we put in the Turbo Tax CD and completed our taxes. Our Federal taxes were e-filed and have been accepted and we mailed our State tax return today. It was very easy to use. I'm pretty excited to say that I have my taxes done at the beginning of February!

4. On Sunday, we found that the toilet was actually not ok requiring us to have a professional come and use a power auger to get the clog out. We were also told that there is a crack in the pipe which caused the huge poop to clog the toilet. We were relieved that the crack in the pipe made it clog as that meant it was the landlady's responsibility to fix and not ours. I didn't have an extra couple hundred dollars lying around to pay Roto Rooter to use a power auger to unclog our toilet.

5. Because of the whole toilet issue, we didn't get anything accomplished on Sunday that we normally would. This caused Monday to be a Manic Monday. Grocery shopping needed to be done and much food needed to be prepared as The Mr. is going out of town beginning tomorrow and we all know that I have no idea how to cook.

One Wish

This past weekend we went to the mall to walk around. While we were there we sat near the water fountain as Thing 1 loves to look at the water fountain. Thing 1 noticed that there was money in the fountain. So I gave him a penny and told him to make a wish. I had to explain what a wish was and asked what he would wish for. Here is what he said "I wish for money." And then he threw the penny into the fountain.

Me too, kid. I also wish for money.

9 Months

This past month Thing 2 has accomplished many feats. On Christmas, he began crawling. And now he does it like a pro. A few weeks ago we found him sitting up in his crib when we went to get him out of bed in the morning. He has also said his first words - mama and dada. He is now practicing other consonant sounds. Thing 2 has begun holding his own spoon and bottle. Throughout this past month, Thing 2 has decided that baby food is not his favorite thing. He would prefer sandwiches (jelly or cheese), pizza, noodles, and veggies. He is not a fan of bananas or mandarin oranges. We believe that he doesn't like the texture of these foods.

This month we are going to work on drinking out of a straw so we can, hopefully, be done with bottles by the time he is one.

Interesting Report

The other day I picked the boys up from daycare as usual. When I arrived at Thing 1’s room the conversation went sort of like this:

Teacher: Do you watch a lot of Disney movies with kissing in them at home?
Me: Not that I know of, why?
Teacher: Because Thing 1 was kissing this little girl on the mouth during naptime.
Me: Oh!

So on the ride home, I asked Thing 1 about this kissing incident. I found out some very interesting preschool drama. For example, the little girl who I thought was Thing 1’s girlfriend is no longer his girlfriend. She is now the girlfriend of another little boy. I also found out that the little girl that Thing 1 kissed is also not his girlfriend. One of the new girls in his class is actually his girlfriend. I feel like this is a little soap opera or something.

I didn’t realize all of this started at age 3. I think I’m going to be in trouble when he is a teenager! The Mr. says we have a little Casanova.
