Weekend Fun

Since The Mr. started his new job just about a week ago and part of his job includes working every weekend, I have to come up with activities for the kids to do all weekend so we don't go crazy! I am not very creative so all of my ideas ran out by the end of Saturday. Hopefully I can come up with something by this weekend that will cover both Saturday and Sunday or I could be in trouble.

So, after Thing 2's nap on Saturday we went to the park. It was extremely warm out so we stayed until the water ran out - which was about an hour.

After the park, I did something that was probably not the best idea, I took the boys to the grocery store. Alone. Without any assistance. Crying ensued when the TV carts were not in service. Luckily I got them calmed down so that we could move on to phase two of our fun for the evening. We purchased items to make our own pizzas.
The boys seemed to enjoy this project as anything that involves food works for them. They are probably going to eat us out of house and home before they turn 10 at the rate they are going! Of course, they put tons of cheese on the pizzas. There also seemed to be "a little cheese on the pizza, a little cheese in my mouth" going on.
They also seemed to enjoy eating their creations:

Wish me luck in coming up with ideas for this weekend and all the following weekends. I'm not sure how long I can keep this creative thing going. I may need some help!

Happy Easter!

Weekend in review - Easter style!
*The Mr. arrived home from his business trip very early Friday morning - try 2am! He insisted that he had to go into work on Friday. I thought he was nuts. Any employer that would make me take a flight causing me to arrive home at 2am is crazy if they think I would then show up to work that day!

*I worked half a day on Friday, meeting The Mr. for lunch and then to Build-A-Bear to purchase a gift for Thing 2's birthday. (Thing 1 has two animals from there, which Thing 2 loves to play with). I then went to do my weekly Target shopping. I remembered everything that I needed and didn't have any unnecessary items. I was about ready to check out when the fire alarm went off. I was very upset! I had items in my cart for both boys birthdays as well as all the items we were running low on. I was told by the Target employees to exit the store. Once in the parking lot, I waited around for about 10-15 minutes until I realized they probably weren't going to let us back in anytime soon.

*On Saturday, we took the boys to an Easter egg hunt at our church and also to have their picture taken with the Easter bunny. Thing 1 really enjoyed himself. He made lots of crafts and found many eggs. So we ended up with tons of candy that we don't need and I will probably end up eating!

*We then took yet another trip to Target. This time the whole family went. I forgot some of the items that I needed and even purchased some frivolous items. One point for Target, I guess, and zero points for me!

*Saturday afternoon, Thing 2 took his first unassisted steps around the house! We were very excited! He knew that he was doing something great, too. He had the biggest smile on his face while taking those couple steps!

*Sunday we took the boys to the first mass at church, in order to beat the crowd. The one thing I remember praying for when we walked in was to have quiet, calm children during church. That prayer was not answered. They were horrendous! Thing 1 kept talking really loud throughout the service and talking to the people behind us. He was also dropping all of his cereal on the floor, which I kept bending over to pick up. Thing 2 was very squirmy. He wouldn't sit still and would holler each time it was quiet! I was glad when it was over!

*The boys discovered that the Easter bunny had arrived at our house while we were in church. Thing 1 was excited to find his basket full of goodies. Thing 2 really enjoyed playing with the ball he got.

*Yes, I do know how scary the Easter bunny looks in the picture. He must take horrible pictures, because he didn't look that scary in person!

Weekend In Review

This was a rather productive weekend as far as weekends go.

*We actually got some cleaning done around the house. Not including our regular weekend cleaning. I find it difficult to do anything during the week except for the bare minimum. Once we get home from work, eat, do dishes, and put the kids to bed, I'm pretty much exhausted!

*I worked a whole day on Friday, which is rather unusual. See, Thing 2 was sick earlier in the week with an ear infection causing me to stay home with him on Wednesday for the afternoon. At work on Friday I got a lot of paperwork completed. I felt very accomplished!

*On Saturday, we did the usual running around. Before we left for our errands we spent some time outside with the boys and the dog. It was great weather even though it was quite windy! I got some great pictures of the boys outside.

*Later in the day on Saturday, Thing 2 decided to try standing on his own again. We took his pants off of him and had him wandering around in his diaper so the pant legs wouldn't go over his feet and cause him to fall. Well, Thing 1 thought it would be a great idea to also go around without pants. So both my boys were wandering around the house in t-shirts and underpants/diaper with Thing 1 saying "We're free!"

*On Sunday, we made it to church rather early. It is Palm Sunday so everyone decides that they must get back into practice in attending church since next week is Easter. I was actually surprised that we were early as the past few weeks we have been so late that we haven't been able to get a parking spot. This has caused us to go get breakfast and then attend the later mass.

*This evening we are also preparing for The Mr. to take yet another business trip. He leaves tomorrow morning and comes back very late on Thursday. Wish me luck in doing the single parenting thing this week. It's always so much harder to get things done when he's not around. By the end of the week I will be exhausted.

Weekend In Review

Here it goes, my weekend in review:
*My week was very stressful as The Mr. was gone, so when he returned Friday evening I was ecstatic. I was ready to turn over the kids to him and go straight to bed, and I pretty much did just that.

*On Saturday, Thing 2 figured out how to drink from a straw. He is doing very well with it. We have determined that he may be off bottles by the time he turns one after all.

*Also on Saturday, Thing 2 started drinking whole milk, as we were out of formula. He is a couple weeks away from his first birthday so, therefore, a little young to start drinking milk. However, he seemed to enjoy it.

*On Saturday morning, Thing 2 was found standing by himself in the living room without holding on to anything. He didn't stand there very long (less than a minute) before going back to holding on to whatever piece of furniture was closest to him.

*At church this morning, Thing 1 was very well behaved. It was a miracle. Normally we are telling him to sit still, be quiet in church, don't run around, or other things of that nature. Thing 2, however, wanted nothing to do with sitting still.

*Today we actually got some things accomplished around the house before going to church. That never happens. Because of this, we were able to enjoy the day by doing a little shopping. We finally purchase a camera! We also found towels on sale so we purchased some new towels. (The ones we have in our linen closet we actually received as a wedding gift and we have been married for almost 10 years. It was about time to purchase new towels.) I also found a nice purse on sale - 2/3 off it's original price! It was a very successful shopping day!

*I plan to post pictures on this here blog of the new puppy as well as of Thing 1 and Thing 2 as soon as I get a little more familiar with my new camera.

Weekend In Review

To continue with my weekend in review tradition, here's how the weekend went in our household.

*Let's see...where to start? On Saturday, I gave The Mr. my new ATM card to activate by going to the ATM and making a withdrawal. I gave him what I thought was my password only to find that my card was retained! I then told him to try my old card and the ATM took that one as well! I contacted the bank whose ATM took my card but since it wasn't my bank they will not give me my card back. I contacted my bank who is sending me a new ATM card that I should receive within 7-10 days.

*I have received a few requests for the name of our puppy as well as pictures. Well, the puppy's name is MJ. Thing 1 wanted to name her Spiderman but since the puppy is female, we went with MJ - keeping with the Spiderman theme. Unfortunately, our camera is not functioning properly. Once we get a new camera, pictures will be posted.

*As I had said, we need a new camera. We did a little research this weekend and still can't decide what to get. I want something that isn't too expensive and works. I also want a camera that takes out the red eye but doesn't do that double flash thing. Anytime I have used a camera with that double flash thing, I always get pictures with Thing 2's eyes closed or he looks like he is drunk. If you have any suggestions, I will take them!

*I decided to take some time for myself this weekend. I have been told by many people that I need to do this so that I don't go crazy. I tried it and I am not sure I was very successful at it. I wandered around the mall by myself for about an hour and then I came back home. I'll try again next weekend. We shall see if I am more successful at it the second time or if I find myself bored again.

*This evening we will be preparing for the week (i.e. meals made, dishes complete). The Mr. is taking another trip for work and this time he will be gone all week. Wish me luck taking care of both boys, a puppy, and our cat by myself! I will need it!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Weekend In Review

February was not a good posting month for me. I apologize for that. It's not that I had forgotten about this here blog or that I had nothing to say, it's just that I was extremely tired from starting my new job at the beginning of the month. Things are getting a little better with managing the program. The staff are beginning to see that the things I am putting into place are actually doing some good. My biggest frustration is that during the supervisions with each staff this week, I started out by giving everyone a copy of their job description that we then reviewed to find each person say "I've never seen my job description before!" Ugh!!

Anyway, here is my weekend in review.

*On Friday, I checked my account online to find a surprise. My tax return had come in!!! I was really excited as I could then pay bills! :)

*Also on Friday, I was one of the many people who decided to wait until the last day of the month before heading to the MVA (or DMV for those of you not from Maryland) to renew my registration for my vehicle. I was there for more than 2 hours! I'm not really complaining though as I knew it would be busy on the last day of the month.

*On Saturday, we purchased the boys new shoes. Thing 1 was really starting to outgrow his shoes so it was time. Thing 2 hasn't worn shoes yet, but since he is starting to walk, he is going to need shoes when outside. We will probably still keep him either bare foot or in socks when inside, though.

*Today has been a pretty typical Sunday as we went to church this morning as we do every week and then grabbed a quick lunch. However, both boys were being difficult. Today was one of those days were I asked "Why did I have children?" I am still trying to figure it out!

*A bonus that happened today was both children napped at the same time this afternoon. I also was able to take a nap. (Let's not talk about how long I napped. I think my husband is jealous!) We all woke up refreshed and happy, leading to a much more pleasant evening!

*It began snowing here this afternoon. We are expecting 7-10 inches so I am guessing we will have a snow day tomorrow. I think I may actually enjoy that. I hope to get more work done around the house, if that happens, and Thing 1 wants to make a snowman.

Weekend In Review

I want start off by saying, I am still alive. I've just been extremely busy. I started my new job last week so I basically came home every night and passed out on the couch. I'm starting to get into a groove now so I think things will calm down and I can actually do some of the things that I enjoy while I'm at home instead of being a zombie.

So, I thought I would do a review of our weekend.

1. Friday we did our weekly Target trip and purchase Turbo Tax. I have co-workers who say it's really great so I thought we could try to do our own taxes for once.

2. On Saturday, Thing 1 finally did #2 on the potty after not going #2 for a week. Because of this, the toilet clogged. We plunged it and it seemed to be ok.

3. Saturday evening we put in the Turbo Tax CD and completed our taxes. Our Federal taxes were e-filed and have been accepted and we mailed our State tax return today. It was very easy to use. I'm pretty excited to say that I have my taxes done at the beginning of February!

4. On Sunday, we found that the toilet was actually not ok requiring us to have a professional come and use a power auger to get the clog out. We were also told that there is a crack in the pipe which caused the huge poop to clog the toilet. We were relieved that the crack in the pipe made it clog as that meant it was the landlady's responsibility to fix and not ours. I didn't have an extra couple hundred dollars lying around to pay Roto Rooter to use a power auger to unclog our toilet.

5. Because of the whole toilet issue, we didn't get anything accomplished on Sunday that we normally would. This caused Monday to be a Manic Monday. Grocery shopping needed to be done and much food needed to be prepared as The Mr. is going out of town beginning tomorrow and we all know that I have no idea how to cook.
