Questions From The Oldest

Today, when I came home from work, I received some very interesting questions from Thing 1.

"What is a doppleganger?"

"What is a hot mama?"

I'd ask where he comes up with these things but I know the doppleganger question came from a children's television show he was watching and he told me that a kid at school says hot mama.

The Negotiation

Today we went to a restaurant for lunch where they give the children free balloons.  After we had ordered our food, one of the men who works at the restaurant came to our table to welcome us and talk to the kids.  He asked Thing 2 for his balloon.  Thing 2, of course, said no.  The man then said he would buy the balloon for $5.  Thing 2, again, said no.  The man then asked how much for the balloon.  Thing 2 said, "100 dollars."

Interesting Statements

This past week The Mr. has heard some interesting statements from Thing 2.  Here are a few:

"Quiet down, Daddy.  You're scaring MJ."  (MJ is our dog and my husband was apparently snoring loudly while taking a nap.)

"Your hair is crazy.  You need a haircut.  Don't cry, Daddy."  (Thing 2 tends to cry every time he gets a haircut.)

After bumping his head he said, "I need a new head, call Dr. Phillips."

Human Beans

The other day my kids were watching The Emperor's New Groove.  For those of you who haven't seen the movie, at the beginning it shows the Emperor as a llama who is about to tell his story of how he became a llama.  It then switches to the beginning of the story.  It was at this point that Thing 1 said, "Now he's a human bean."  I then responded, "A human bean?"  Thing 1, "Yes. You know like us.  A person.  A human bean."  I couldn't help laughing as I explained that it is a human being not a human bean.

Request

Thing 1 while watching television: "Can we get a ninja? Just one ninja?"

Hmmm....where to get a ninja? And where did he get this idea that people have ninjas?

The Case of the Moving Superhero

This morning Thing 1 was playing in the living room with his superheroes. He noticed that The Flash was up on a shelf. Here was the conversation:

Thing 1: "Can you get The Flash? He's way up there."

Me: "How did he get up there?"

Thing 1: "I don't know. He must have jumped up there. And he won't jump down because we are looking at him!"

Too much Toy Story watching?

It's Starting Early This Year

There has been a lot of discussion in this house about Christmas. Pretty much as soon as Halloween was over, Thing 1 began talking about Santa Claus and Christmas lights. About a week ago, both boys decided it was time to start wearing their Santa hats. Now, I'm all for Christmas; however, I would prefer to wait until Thanksgiving is over!

So, the other day I asked Thing 1 what he wanted for Christmas.

Thing 1: "an umbrella and a flashlight"

Me: "Do you want anything else?"

Thing 1: "What does Santa have?"

Apparently, Mr. Claus needs to start sending out a catalog!

Funny Quotes

Here are a couple quotes from Thing 1 from the past few days.

The Mr., "You are really rambunctious today."
Thing 1, "I'm not randy bush!"
***************************************************************************************
We were at the store today and saw a poster of the characters from Ice Age.
Thing 1, "Why is Diego here?"
Me, "I don't know."
Thing 1, all excited, "I think it's because this store is special! This store is special, Mommy!"

One Wish

This past weekend we went to the mall to walk around. While we were there we sat near the water fountain as Thing 1 loves to look at the water fountain. Thing 1 noticed that there was money in the fountain. So I gave him a penny and told him to make a wish. I had to explain what a wish was and asked what he would wish for. Here is what he said "I wish for money." And then he threw the penny into the fountain.

Me too, kid. I also wish for money.

Did he really just say that?

The other day I was trying to get out of the house to take the kids to daycare and myself to work. I was hoping to actually get there on time for a change. I had repeatedly told Thing 1 to get his coat on. I was getting quite annoyed that he continued to play instead of listening to me. While I was getting Thing 2 ready to go outside, I told Thing 1 again to get his coat on. He looked up at me and said "Are you asking me for my opinion?"

After I told him "No, I'm not asking you for your opinion. Get your coat on," I then went into the other room to chuckle without him seeing me.

Pretty Hairy

Thing 1 was very rambunctious today. He was running all over, talking quite loudly during church, pretty much just wearing me out. Truth be told, he was being 3. This evening we went to Panera for dinner as Thing 1 wanted soup and bread. The only way we can get him to eat broccoli is if we buy him broccoli cheddar soup from Panera. While we were there, Thing 1 was acting the same way he had been all day. The Mr. was holding Thing 2. Thing 1 asked if he could touch Thing 2's head. The Mr. said that he could but he needed to be gentle. The conversation then when something like this.

Thing 1: "He doesn't have any hair."
The Mr.: "He has a little hair."
Thing 1: "He doesn't have a lot of hair like Daddy."
The Mr.: "Yes, I'm pretty hairy."
Thing 1: "Do you have a hairy penis?"
The Mr. then looked at me and said "Isn't wonderful when they learn how to talk?"

Talented

The other night, The Mr. tucked Thing 1 into bed. A little while later, we heard a noise coming from the boys' room. The Mr. went in to check it out and found Thing 1 jumping up and down on his bed. The Mr. told Thing 1 not to jump on his bed. Thing 1 proceeded to tell The Mr. "it's my talent." I didn't realize that jumping up and down on a bed could be a talent. I wonder what kind of career opportunities would be available to him with this talent?

What's for lunch?

Today, we were debating on what to eat for lunch. So, as usual when we can't make a decision, we ask Thing 1 what he would like to eat.

Me: "What do you want for lunch?"

Thing 1 (wearing a Nemo hat): "Fish."

Me: "You want to eat Nemo?"

Thing 1: "No. I want to eat Dori."
